On the 3rd Anniversary of Metro Cash & Carry Pakistan, Metro and Lifebuoy joined hands for a unique fundraising event for the flood affected people of Pakistan.
Waseem Akram, a living legend of Pakistani and world cricket was present in person to sign off on a range of cricket tools: bats; balls, caps and T-shirts, which were auctioned off to a crowd of people who had gathered at the Metro store in solidarity for the auction with a cause.
The generosity of the crowd for Wasim Akram's signed cricket paraphernalia was tremendous. A total of Rs 500,000 was raised for the cause, to which Rs 200,000 worth of goods will be provided by Unilever Pakistan Limited (UPL) for the flood affectees. The most active group who bid generously and decisively for the auction was Guard Auto Zone and their representative Sheharyar Malik. The Board of Directors took active participation in the auction pledging full support for the great cause.
The funds raised through the auction were presented to Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA), Lifebuoy's corporate social responsibility (CSR) partner in Pakistan working in 1200 schools and approximately 250,000 children in four districts of Pakistan. This very timely campaign led by none other than Waseem Akram as the social champion, focuses on hygiene messages, preventive health and advantages of handwashing with soap for at least five occasions daily through five elected vice captains (both girls and boys) from each school. These young hygiene ambassadors will work through both a child-to child approach and child to adult approach. The campaign comprises of awareness, commitment, practice and activities and rewards in the shape of certificates and cricket memorabilia.
