On the 3rd anniversary of METRO, Cash & Carry Pakistan, METRO and Lifebuoy joined hands for a unique fundraising event for the flood affected people of Pakistan. Wasim Akram, a living legend of Pakistani and world cricket was present in person to sign off on a range of cricket tools - bats, balls, caps and T-shirts which were auctioned off to a crowd of people who had gathered at the METRO's Thokar wholesale centre, Lahore in solidarity for the auction with a cause.
The generosity of the crowd for Wasim Akram's signed cricket paraphernalia was tremendous. A total of Rs 200,000 was raised for the cause, to which Rs 200,000 worth of goods will be provided by Unilever Pakistan Limited (UPL) for the flood affectees. The most active group who bid generously and decisively for the auction was Guard Auto Zone and their representative Sheharyar Malik.
The Uniliver Management and Board of Directors of METRO Cash & Carry Pakistan took active participation in the auction pledging full support for the great cause. The auctioned amount of Rs 700,000 was presented to the chairperson ITA, Dr Narmeen Hamid by Giovanni Soranzo, Managing Director, METRO Cash & Carry Pakistan and METRO Board of Directors in the presence of Waseem Akram, Ms Shazia Syed Vice President UPL and the generous citizens of Lahore.
The amount collected from the auction will be dedicated to flood affected children 2-9 years of age who would also be engaged in an active health and hygiene programme in a community centre in Muzaffargarh district. Dr Narmeen said, "A significant aspect of the event highlighted four symbols of hope and positivity: Wasim Akram, Unilever, METRO & ITA, coming together and not only raising money for a good cause but also raising the morale of a depressed nation. It was a wonderful demonstration of the fact that if we work together, we can change our own fate".
Addressing the gathering, Giovanni Soranzo, Managing Director METRO Cash & Carry Pakistan, said that METRO has completed 3 years of successful operations in Pakistan today and we did not forget our flood affected brothers, sisters and children. We have helped them before individually as well as in collaboration with our business partners. We are committed to Pakistan and the people of Pakistan and it will be an on going process.-PR
