Pakistan Oilseed Development Board (PODB) has convened a meeting on November 08, 2010 (Monday) in Lahore of the stakeholders to chalk out strategy for sunflower cultivation 2010-11. Sources in the PODB told Business Recorder that the Federal Agriculture Committee (FAC) has recently set a target of sowing of sunflower over an area of 11, 45000 acres.
This target is set for both the autumn and spring sowing of this important oilseed crop. Acting Managing Director, PODB, Nasir Ali will chair the meeting. Sources said stakeholders from all the four provinces, representatives of the seed companies association, agriculture extension, solvent extractors and farmers will be participating in this meeting, which would devise a strategy to meet the target set by the FAC. 'We are not only wanted to have co-operation from these stakeholders to meet the target set by the government but wanted to take it to 2 million acres during the next year,' sources added.
