Flood affected people of Jagatpur, Punj Grain and adjacent areas on Sunday staged a demonstration in front of Multan Press Club under the leadership of Abdul Majid, Abdul Rashid, Zafar Hussain, Muhammad Iqbal, Ghulam Hashim, Khalifa Muhammad Bakhsh, Bashir Hussain ,Fida Hussain and Shaukat Hussain.
They protested against non-issuance of even a single Watan Card in the two major flood-affected villages. The Watan Card is the basic requirement for receiving the government aid of Rs 100,000 per family as announced by the federal government.
Taking serious notice of the dismal situation, the demonstrators urged upon the National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to take immediate steps to address the complaint of the neglected villages of Muzaffargarh district, so that the flood victims were compensated. Nadra officials said that there were many problems in the registration process in different villages of Muzaffargarh district, as the majority of the people had no Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs). This district lack basic banking facilities like bank branches and automated tellers machines (ATMs) that are used for distribution of aid, they added.
