Rector National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Muhammad Asghar said that success lies in hardwork, consistency, no doubt we have the brilliant minds to discover the hidden treasury of the Universe.
He was speaking at School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (SEECS) at the occasion of 4th undergraduate convocation held at NUST campus Islamabad. As many as 249 graduating students from the disciplines of electrical engineering, information and communication system engineering and information technology, besides awarding medals to the outstanding engineers.
Addressing on the occasion Rector NUST Engr Muhammad Asghar stressed the need of higher education, saying that no nation can progress without education. Giving the detail, he said that Pakistan had total of 131 PhDs from 2003 to 2009 and 21 PhDs were produced by NUST. In short span of time NUST has earned a good name and is among the top 300 universities world-wide, He added.
He suggested that the government should enhance education budget further to achieve the targets of vision 2030 and compete with the developed nations. In 2010 more than 42,000 students have applied for admission in bachelors programmes out of which 2000 students were selected for admission.
He said that we have lack of resources but despite the budget cuts and stop in all scholarships we will not stop the advancement of higher education in sciences and technology in NUST.
Director General NUST SEECS in his welcome speech advised the students to work hard. "We are living in modern times which requires use of innovative technologies to quench the thirst of knowledge and realise dreams into reality".
Kamran Hamid and Syed Zafar ul Hassan Gilani from BIT-7 won President and Rector's Gold Medals respectively. Syed Amier Haider Shah from BIT-8 clinched both the President and Rector's Gold Medals. Shezeen Jooma and Summaira Zafar from BICSE-3 won the President and Rector's Gold Medals respectively. Mr Ghulam Nasir from BICSE-4 claimed the President's Gold Medal. Muhammad Mohsin Sardar from BICSE-4 won the Rector's Gold Medal. Ali Munir and Ahmed Raza from BEE-2 claimed the President and Rector's Gold Medals respectively. Muhammad Saeed Yasin and Junaid Khalid from BEE-3 won the President and Rector's Gold Medals respectively. Merit certificates were awarded to Asad Usman Khan, Rashid Ali, Ansar Moughis-ud-Din, Ashar Rasool and Aimal Khan.-PR
