Arabica coffee futures powered to a 13-year top, propped up by tight bean supplies from Colombia and worries over excessive rains in major producer Vietnam. Raw sugar edged up to end at a fresh 30-year high as the market extended an impressive rally that has pushed it up more than 40 percent in value since early October.
Coffee has posted the third biggest gain in the Reuters Jefferies Commodity index in the year to date, having risen by over 50 percent. Only silver and cotton have outpaced coffee this year. New York's December arabica coffee contract rose 2.95 cents to finish at $2.081 per lb, its highest settlement close in 13 years. New York's March raw sugar contract rose for the fifth consecutive session to end 0.12 cent higher at 31.88 cents per lb. New York's March cocoa contract increased $54 to close at $2,828 per tonne.
