A division bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Wednesday issued notices to five American national Muslim convicts on a government's appeal seeking enhancement in their sentence. An anti terrorism court of Sargodha on terrorism charges awarded 10-year imprisonment to Ramay Zamzam of Egyptian descent, Waqar Khan and Umar Farooq of Pakistani descent, and Aman Hassan Yamar and Ahmed Abdullah Mani of Ethiopian descent.
Sargodha police had arrested them in December 2009 from a rented house on suspicion of plotting terror attacks in Pakistan and for their alleged connections with banned militant outfits. The government in its appeal requested the court that the sentence awarded to the convicts was not sufficient since their crime was of serious nature and they should be awarded life imprisonment minimum.
