City District Government has established 9 sales points in the district for the sale of sugar on special reduced price of Rs 62 per kg and sufficient quality of sugar is being provided on these sale points on daily basis.
These sales points have been established at Iqbal Stadium, Al Fateh Sports Complex Saleemi Chowk Satiana Road, Sports Complex Samnabad, Sports Complex GM Abad, Bakkar Mandi Chowk Afghanabad, Grain Market Samundri, Grain Market Jaranwala, Girls College Road Tandilianwala and Grain Market Chak Jhumra. Separate counters have been set up for the male and female and the consumers are being provided 1-kg sugar each on specially reduced prices.
Under these arrangements 52,500 packets of 1-kg sugar have been sold to the consumers during the last three days. DCO Naseem Sadiq visited various cheap sugar sales points and reviewed arrangements for the sale of sugar. He directed the management of the sales points to maintain discipline and consumers should be facilitated to avoid long queue. He said that special arrangements had been made for the sale of cheap sugar for the provision of economic relief to the poor consumers on the directions of government of Punjab due to sudden price hike of sugar in the market.
He informed that the supply of cheap sugar at these sales points would be increased within the next few days for which special arrangements are being made by the city district government. He said that the strategy was also being devised for the aggressive crackdown against the hoarders of the sugar and the elements involved in black marketing of sugar. He advised the hoarders to bring their stock of sugar in the market voluntarily otherwise they had to face the music.
