The concerns for protection and safety of IDPs against harshness of weather and consequent cold-related diseases grow as a bitter winter is predicted this season in the Sindh province. According to the forecast, winter will be harsher and sooner this season will begin because of the rainfall throughout the province.
As the flood-hit people are spread all over Karachi, its adjoining areas and many other parts of the province, the relief organisations and workers have said that measures should be taken to help them before winter approaches. "We are running Women Friendly Spaces (WFS) and Children Friendly Spaces (CFS) successfully at the 500 Quarter's IDP Village in Kemari Town Karachi, but we in the longer run are concerned for protection and safety of women and children against the cold related diseases and many other weather related hardships," said Sameena Nazir, Executive Director of POTOHAR Organisation for Development Advocacy (PODA). Sameena said there was urgent need for warm clothing, food and medicines for the flood victims.
"There is need for warm clothing ie sweaters, socks, shawls, blankets and quilts as harsher weather conditions predicted," said Muhammad Ali, President Roshni Helpline - an organisation which in collaboration with different organisations is running children and women friendly spaces at IDP village in Kemari Town.-PR
