Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South, Iqbal Mehmood has assured business community that police pickets would be established at all entrance and exit points of Jodia Bazaar to curb criminal activities in the area. Speaking at a meeting of Pakistan Chemicals and Dyes Merchants Association (PCDMA), on Thursday, he said that it is duty of the police to provide security and protect property.
He was of the view that police individually could not overcome criminal's activities and added that police with the help of community can do it. He assured that police patrolling in the areas would be increased by increasing number of policemen posted in the area. He sought the help of the association and asked them to provide at least two motorcycles for patrolling in the area. The DIG also required for donation and installation of vigilance cameras in the areas.
Chairman, PCDMA, Haroon Agar said that complaints from shopkeepers were increasing and the callers were demanding ransom and threatening to kidnap or kill the shopkeepers. Haroon Agar said that Jodia Bazaar is a prominent wholesale market of the country from where goods are being supplied through the country as well as supply of raw material to industries. Buyers also visiting this market from all over the country, he added. He also invited President's attention towards snatching of vehicles carrying goods from Jodia Bazaar to industrial areas and other parts of the country as well as problems faced in recovery of the vehicles and lodging in FIR.
