Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP), strongly reacting to enforcement of Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST), has asked the growers' community to prepare for waging resistance against the tax. KBP Central President, Sardar Zafar Hussein and General Secretary, Malik Muhammad Ramzan Rohari in an open letter written to growers feared that this cruel decision of the government would bring new wave of price hike in the country.
They said this decision of the government would result in manifold increase in the prices of all the agricultural inputs including fertilisers, seeds, oil, pesticides and agricultural implements.
They claimed this step of the government would prove fatal to the already hard-pressed agricultural economy. On one hand, millers of rice, flour, cotton and sugarcane are causing damage to the agricultural sector by not making payments to growers and on the other, government has levied this RGST, they observed. Commenting upon the recent sugar crisis, they said that import of sugar would not benefit the consumers, but the rulers would definitely mint money. KBP farmer leaders demanded that the government should withdraw decision of imposition of RGST, flood surcharge and excise duty.
Concluding, they said government should ensure provision of cheaper electricity, oil and agricultural inputs to boost the agricultural production. Otherwise, they warned, growers would be forced to come on roads to protest against the cruel decision taken by the government.
