Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that legal fraternity earned good name with their cause and commitment and they should try to persevere and maintain it by rendering services to society. He was addressing delegation of Peshawar High Court Bar headed by its president Syed Attique Shah that called upon the Chief Justice here on Thursday.
The Chief Justice said that people looked forward to the Bench and Bar for redressing their grievances and expeditious disposal of their cases. "They have reposed great confidence in the judiciary," he said, adding "strong Bar means strong judiciary."
The members of delegation apprised the Chief Justice about their problems and difficulties and requested that steps should be taken for prisoners undergoing sentences in the jails other than their native provinces as their families faced difficulties and financial hardships because shifting of prisoners from one province to another province was not possible.
The Chief Justice assured them to look into the matter. The delegation pointed out that under National Judicial Policy directions had been issued to all provinces that condemned prisoners should not be kept in death cells till the final decision on their appeals. But in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, they were still kept in death cells this was discriminatory. The delegation appreciated the National Judicial Policy and efforts of Chief Justice for against corruption in judiciary, especially the steps recently taken in KPK to purge judiciary from the corruption by removing corrupt Judges from service.
