Taiwan stocks rose 0.27 percent on Friday, with major technology and automobile makers leading the way after the island's third quarter GDP growth beat market forecasts. Taiwan's benchmark TAIEX share index closed up 22.67 points at 8,306.12. The electronics sub-index rose 0.65 percent, the automobile sub-index jumped 2.3 percent while the financial sub-index lost 0.27 percent.
Among major winners, smartphone maker HTC Corp, the market's most active stock by turnover, shot up 3 percent and Yulon Motor Co Ltd gained 1.36 percent. However, analysts say there are uncertainties lingering over the local mayoral elections later this month and selling could emerge any time next week after the recent rally.
