Law enforcement agencies and government have failed to protect children's rights as no clue of two-year-old Ayesha has been found even after 22 days of kidnapping. This was stated by Abdul Majeed, uncle of kidnapped child at a press conference conducted by Initiator Human Development Foundation (IHDF) against the kidnapping of two-year-old child, at Karachi Press Club here on Saturday.
Two-year-old Ayesha, a resident of Hijrat Colony, went missing from her doorsteps on October 28, 2010 an FIR of her kidnapping was registered with Artillery Maidan Police Station against unknown suspects but no progress bad been reported yet, he claimed.
Answering a question, Majeed said that the kidnappers had not yet contacted his family for any ransom money. "We do not need anything but our beloved Ayesha and if the kidnappers return our child back to us then no inquiry or action would be taken against the culprits," he assured. He requested the government and the concerned authorities to help recover Ayesha and take steps towards investigation.
President, Initiator Human Development Foundation, Rana Asif Habib, who was also present at the press conference said that although they were still unable to safeguard child protection rights but the celebration of Universal Children's Day were on their peak. No single child friendly police station had been set up in the country as more than eight million children were working as child labour in Pakistan, he added.
He said that government was least interested in children rights matters, as Child Protection Bill was pending for six years in Sindh Assembly and opposition was also performing the role of a friendly opposition. He added that Pakistan had signed Children Rights Agreement in 1990 in spite of it Beggars Mafia, Child Traffickers and the mafia involved in child sex dominating society.
Mufti Kamal Uddin, a well wisher and a resident of Hijrat Colocy was also present to support the family. He said that a police officer at the police station when insisted replied "I do not have any helicopter to find you child." Mufti appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take suo motu notice on the kidnapping of two-year-old Ayesha. Fazl-e-Aseem, father of kidnapped Ayesha, was also present in press conference. He waving her picture in his hand but was unable to say anything.
