The demand-supply gap remained nil at Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) distribution network amidst start of fresh spell of power load-shedding at Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) system after Eid holidays. KESC sources said power outages would commence from Saturday in all the commercial and residential areas of the cosmopolitan.
The areas noted for power stealth would face four to five-hour load shedding, while three-hour load shedding would be carried out in areas with less power thefts. However, industrial areas in KESC distribution network will not afflict power outages. The KESC distribution network power demand presently stands at 1950 megawatts with supply only 1,700MWs. Interestingly, power shortage on KESC network remained clumsy despite a supply of 650MW from Pepco network.
It may be noted that the Energy Summit held with Prime Minister in the chair had decided to cut power supply to KESC from Pepco system to half, which could be acted upon for very short period. But still the rising power shortage at the KESC network is worrisome and situation is likely to worsen ahead. As far as Pepco is concerned, currently, power generation and demand equalled at 10183MW. Power generation through hydel stood at 5,656MW. This was followed by 910MW through thermal, 3,587MW IPPs and 30MW through RPPs.
