Higher Education Commission has conferred its 'Distinguished National Professor' title on Punjab University, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences and Head of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics Department, Dr Shahida Hasnain in recognition of her contributions and honour her academic and research accomplishments.
The position will entitle Dr Shahida receive an amount of rupees 75,000/- per month as a grant for a period of two years which she will place in a separate account. It will be her discretion either to utilise this amount partially or entirely on research etc, or meet her own requirements up-to a maximum of rupees 50,000/- per month. In addition, she will be entitled to retain this title after expiry of a two-year period without any financial benefit.
Punjab University Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran has felicitated Dr Shahida on her distinctive achievement earned through her long-running research contribution and scholarly services.
Meanwhile, Punjab University Law College and Institute of Communication Studies, Muhammad Waseen Afzal and Ali Akbar, who obtained first and second positions respectively in an inter-collegiate speech contest recently held as part of Allama Iqbal birth anniversary celebrations, will receive their awards in a ceremony at Awan-e-Tehreek-i-Pakistan, Lahore on November 24.
