Carnage at Liaquat Bagh: suspects identified by Benazir under probe, says Malik
Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that all suspected persons allegedly identified by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto are currently under investigation. Talking to journalists before the meeting of Crises Management Cell (CMC) of Ministry of Interior (MoI) Malik here on Monday, he said that they had so far made progress in Benazir assassination case and would make the investigation public as soon as the report was completed.
Without elaborating on the alleged persons involved in her assassination, the Minister said that all reports would be made public. He disclosed that National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) issued 90,000 fake Computerised National Identity Card (CNICs) to Afghan immigrants.
Briefing journalists before the meeting of Crises Management Cell (CMC) of Ministry of Interior (MoI), he said the department would take action against the black sheep in Nadra. It is known fact that the terrorists were shifting from Afghanistan to Pakistan in guise of immigrants and penetrated in parts of country, he added.
To a question about the performance of National Alien Registration Authority (Nara), the federal minister said the department has become redundant and the MoI was looking for various options to improve its performance. The ministry has received reports of corruption in various government institutions and the ministry along with the support of the President and Prime Minister has planned to launch action against the public sector institution involved in corruption. The ministry has also received complaints against WAPDA, Sui Southern and Sui Northern Gas Company, he said.
