The administration of Faisalabad has conducted successful surprise raid on the godown of a mill located in Jaranwala area and recovered more than 35,000 bags of sugar allegedly kept for illegal profiteering. The raid was supervised by District Co-ordination Officer (DCO), Naseem Sadiq directly, in which the stock was taken under possession and supplied to open market to sell it on government's fixed price ie rupees (Rs) 72/- per kg.
A case against the mill management has been registered under Price Control Act at the police station of Jaranwala. Talking to the media men on the occasion, Sadiq expressed his commitment that the crackdown against hoarders of sugar would continue and elements involved in this ugly act would be taken to task.
He informed that more than 7,000 bags of sugar have been sold during the last two days on the whole sale price of Rs 3,450/- per 50 kg bag at 48 sales points set up under the arrangement of city government. He further said retail sellers are bound to sale the commodity at government's fixed price, whether imported or locally made.
Sadiq said 145 fair-price shops have also been nominated in the district to sell sugar at controlled rate for convenience of people. He added that sufficient stock has been supplied to fair-price shops, while eight sale-points have already been working in the district for selling the commodity at the subsidised rate of Rs 63/- per kg in order to provide economic relief to the common man. He further said 16 price-control magistrates have been mobilised to check the price of sugar in open market.
The DCO warned the dealers to declare their stock and supply it in open market, otherwise, if anyone is found involved in hoarding of sugar, his stock would be confiscated. He urged upon the retailers to sell sugar on government's fixed price otherwise, profiteers would be sent behind bars.
