Islamabad Police have failed to bring down the rising trend of street crime despite repeated claims as more than 125 robbery, cheating, theft, purse and vehicle snatching cases were reported during the week in the capital. The City Police bosses were making tall claims of eliminating crime, but people were deprived of their valuables including cars, motorcycles, cash, golden ornaments, watches and cell-phones worth Rs 25 million during last one week.
According to data obtained from 14 police stations of Islamabad Police 91 outlaws including 12 women, were arrested for their alleged involvement in street crimes, bootlegging, drug pushing, dacoities, car snatching, robberies and other crimes.
Islamabad Police recovered illicit arms including three kalashinkoves, one repeater gun, three 12-bore guns, 15 pistols (30-bore), four pistols of 38 and 32-bore), three daggers and over 500 rounds of different caliber from the outlaws, besides recovering two kg heroin, five kg charas and 350 bottles of liquor.
People were deprived of ten vehicles including four Mehran cars, one Suzuki Margalla, one Suzuki pick up, two Toyota Corollas, two Suzuki vans and three motorcycles. Five gangs of the criminals were busted by Islamabad Police during the week involved in different crimes.
