Punjab government is attaching top priority to the uplift of education sector and has taken revolutionary and unprecedented measures in this regard. According to the sources, Pakistan has evolved a number of educational policies in the past. The failure, however, has been in the commitment and implementation of these.
Recently, many new initiatives were launched by Punjab government, aimed at bridging the missing gaps in the overall facilities and improvement of infrastructure. Merger of shelter less schools has been one of them. A large number of shelter-less schools and masjid maktab schools have been functioning in the same village, chak or locality along with government primary, elementary or high school for boys or girls. Some schools have been non-functional due to defective selection of site or without potential for feasible enrolment, the sources added.
The competent authority has how decided to eliminate duplication and redundancy of the system. Masjid maktab schools without official land in their possession, and non-functional buildings of two or more classrooms constructed with government funds are now being merged with regular boys or girls primary schools or with a senior level school of the same village, chak or locality.
These schools may even be merged with girls' schools. The merger takes place along with staff, students, record, building, furniture, fixture, land and other assets and liabilities. Moreover, schools functioning in the rented buildings have also been merged with the nearest government school of distance within the prescribed criteria. The matter of schools working in a rented building would also be dealt with according to the above formula for merger.
