The district administration has recovered thousands bags of sugar in a raid on a godown in Nishterabad area of Peshawar city. The district administration is conducting raids on the directives of the Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who in the wake of rising of sugar price that has touched Rs 120 per kilogramme has directed the distract administrations to use all available resources for launching crackdown on the hoarders of the commodity.
The district administration on a tipoff raided a godown in Nishterabad. The raid was conducted under the supervision of DCO Peshawar assisted by Special Magistrate, DSP and SHO Gulbahar.
Sugar bags numbering in thousand were found stored in the godown. On inspection in the presence of the Rationing Controller Peshawar, it was observed that sugar was exported through TCP from Thailand and UAE, probably meant for flood victims as per an initial enquiry. The area people also said that the labels were changed on the exported sugar.
The sugar was taken into custody and handed over to SHO Gulbahar. The godown was sealed and the SHO Gulbahar was directed to initiate enquiry u/s 156 (3) to unearth other members of the hoarders gang, against whom FIR needs to be registered under relevant sections of law.
The owner of the godown Naseer Ahmad was arrested on the spot and handed over to police as well as warrant u/s 16 MPO was also issued against the accused. The case is under investigation and further progress will be made public on the completion of the inquiry. The Food Department has been assigned task to find out such godowns.
