The Supreme Court Friday issued notices to proprietors/owners of Central Power Generation Co Ltd (CPGCL), through Nepra to appear and submit reply explaining its position in the alleged multi-million dollars scam in power projects. Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary, taking a notice on a report appearing in a section of press, also put concerned authorities of the Water and Development Authority (Wapda) and Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) on notice.
"During pendency of rental power project case in the court above disclosure has been made; therefore, office is directed to place on record above newspaper containing above captioned news", CJP noted in his order. Notice was also issued to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) through its chairman to appear and substantiate this news item with documentary proof.
The court will hear the case along with the RPPs case already pending in the court. The notice was taken on a news story in which it was reported that Nepra had detected fraud in rental plants payments and irregularities in advance payment to Naudero-II and Guddu projects. The story further said that Nepra declined to approve tariff for Naudero-II after discovering that project''s equipment belonged to Guddu rental power project.
