Sympathetic attitude and joint efforts of well-to-do people are vital for steering the deprived people out of the crisis, said Kaleem Imam, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Islamabad, here on Saturday. Islamabad Police is taking concrete steps for the welfare of the people by involving philanthropists in community welfare programs and, as a sequel of such steps.
Islamabad Police is sending quilt-loaded trucks to the flood affected areas, he said in his address before dispatching the trucks to the flood affected areas of Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, Swat and Mingora. SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, SSP (Security) Ehsan Abbass, SP Industrial Area Jameel Hashmi, DSP Safeer Hussain Bhatti, philanthropists and several other police officials were also present on the occasion.
Earlier, Islamabad Police had also donated one-day salary in the Prime Minister Relief Fund for the rehabilitation of flood affected and Islamabad Operational Police as well as Islamabad Traffic police also dispatched several trucks loaded with relief items to flood hit areas.
Kaleem said that several philanthropists, including Muhammad Irfan and Muhammad Hussain, collaborated with Islamabad Police in the noble cause. He said that police officers in various districts are making every possible effort for ensuring transparent delivery of the consignments.
He said that winter season has started; so, it is imperative to take steps for immediately providing warm clothes and blankets the flood affectees, adding that the help would continue in future as well. Kaleem Imam said that Islamabad Police is contributing in social welfare activities besides ensuring protection to the lives and property of the citizens, and added that Islamabad Police have an objective to ensure friendly police culture.
Talking to media persons, the IGP said that security arrangements made previously for Muharram were reviewed and elaborate arrangements have been made this year. He said that security will be on high alert for 40 days after the advent of Muharram and strict checking would be made at various security points in the city. He appreciated the role of Frontier Constabulary in assisting Islamabad police on various important occasions and said that the Commandant of FC, Sifat Ghayur, sacrificed his life in the line of duty.
"FC is a wonderful force, and it will assist in Islamabad police for security arrangements during Muharram-ul-Haram," the IGP said, adding that around 23 officials had laid down their lives for making the city `peaceful', while several others getting injured. He asked the media persons to visit houses of martyred as well as wounded policemen and highlight their sacrifices. Kaleem said that investigation into the matter of missing Inspector of Islamabad police was underway. He said that it has been requested to ban the entry of seven clerics from various schools of thought in the Capital, for the time being, while stringent security measures would be put in place in Muharram. The IGP said that Open Kutcheries, organised in various areas of the city, had helped a lot to understand the problems of the people, and it would help in bridging the gap between the police and the public.
