While endorsing the protest call given by all the leading trade and industrial associations including Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA) against discrimination in gas supply to the industry in Punjab and RGST, the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry has appealed to the business community to join the protest planned for Monday, December 6 from LCCI to Governor House.
In a statement issued here on Saturday after having a marathon meeting with all the leading industrial associations and Anjuman-e-Tajran Pakistan, the LCCI president Shahzad Ali Malik said that on the first step, the business community would stage a protest against discrimination in gas supply to the industry in Punjab and if curative action is not taken immediately, the trade and industry would go on strike.
The meeting which continued well over two hours was attended by the LCCI President Shahzad Ali Malik, Senior Vice President Sheikh Muhammad Arshad, Vice President Sohail Azhar, LCCI former President Mian Anjum Nisar, Acting President Anjuman-e-Tajran Pakistan Khalid Pervaiz, Secretary General Abdul Razzaq Bubbar, Ashraf Bhatti, Shahzad Azam Khan, Maqsood Butt, Adil Butt, Lahore Township Industrial Association, Ferozepur Road Industrial Association, Shahdara Industrial Association, Steel Melters Association, Sheikhupura Chamber of Commerce, Representatives of PRGMEA and other leading industrial associations.
There was a consensus among the participants that the government would not be allowed to impose its wrong decisions aimed at pushing the country to the wall rather all anti-business, anti-industry policies would be resisted tooth and nail. "It seems that the economy is not the priority of those who are sitting on the helm of affairs rather they are more interested in other affairs."
Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI President Shahzad Ali Malik said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry strongly supports the demands of business community and is ready to take any step in the larger interest of trade and industry. He said that if a strike call was given by the trade and industry, the LCCI would support it at all costs.
The LCCI President also urged the political parties not to play the role of silent spectator and join the business community on the issue of discrimination in gas supply to the Punjab industry.
The Acting President of Anjuman-e-Tajran Pakistan Khalid Pervaiz said that the business community is united on the issue of protest against discrimination in gas supply to the Punjab industry and they would resist strongly if any forced decision was imposed on it.
