Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Sunday forecast mainly dry weather for different parts of the country during next 24 hours. However isolated rain with snowfall over the hills is also expected over upper Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining areas during the next two days.
A severe cold wave is heading towards Pakistan and likely to grip most parts of the country. According to analysis, the cold wave conditions are likely to prevail in most parts of the country from Sunday to Tuesday and severe cold wave conditions with strong winds will grip Quetta valley during the period making the mercury level further down to minimum -8 to -12 degrees Celsius.
Minimum temperatures recorded in different cities on Sunday were Islamabad 3 C, Lahore 5 C, Quetta-5 C, Karachi 12 C, Peshawar 4 C, Muzaffarabad 4 C, Gilgit-4 C, Murree 2 C and Skardu and Qalat-6. While the lowest temperature was-7 recorded in Kalam.
On the basis of prevailing atmospheric circulation and global weather conditions, PMD has forecast normal rainfall for the country during the winter period (December to February 2010-11).
The Met Office calculations said there is 80 per cent chance that winter rainfall from December to February, on all Pakistan basis will be nearly normal. However, the northern parts of the country may receive slightly above normal (+10pc) precipitation due to one or two strong wet-spells during the month of January/February. The normal rainfall (area weighted) for the period December to February for the country is 51.99 mm.
