A man was killed and a youth injured during protest at Manghopir Road against Pirabad search operation of Rangers Special Force (RSF) while 25 suspects were also detained by Sindh Rangers here on Wednesday. According to details, over 300 protesters came out to express resentment against the search operation triggered by RSF at Kunwari Colony, Awan Colony and Sultanabad Colony located in Pirabad (Manghopir area).
The search operation, which was initiated on a tip-off of four arrested persons that some militants are hiding in the city, has charged the inhabitants of the area, who blocked the Manghopir Road and pelted vehicles with stones during the protest.
Meanwhile, the Rangers have fired several tear-gas shells to disperse the enraged protestors which resulted exchange of fire from both sides. In a scuffle between the law enforcers and protesters, a 30 year old Atique, son of Gul Hasan was killed and a 25 year old Tahir Shamar Khan, a resident of Kunwari colony got injured, who was later taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment. The body of deceased, who was said to be the resident of Hazara, was taken by his heirs.
The sources said the Rangers have detained some 25 protesters and started investigation and added that some 90 percent of the people, who were detained during search operation, have been released and only those are still in custody, who were identified as suspects by the RSF's informers during identification parade.
According to SP Gadap Town, Rao Anwaar, the deceased was a pedestrian and came under the range of cross-fire while the injured Tahir Shamar Khan was identified as protester. It was worth mentioning that the RSF have arrested some 13 suspects including the leader of banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and recovered huge cache of weapons and explosives from its camp office during house to house search on Tuesday morning, which was started to rule out possibilities of any untoward incident during Muharram.
