Eighteen people were killed and 32 others were injured in a suicide bombing incident on Wednesday at a bus stand at Tirah Bazaar of Kohat City, 65 km south of here. The spokesman of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, Iftikhar Hussein confirmed 18 casualties in the incident and leaving 32 others injured. The 19th victim, he said, was 14-15 years old suicide bomber.
According to local police, the bomber blew himself near a bus carrying commuters to the nearby Orakzai Agency of the tribal region. Fourteen people died on the spot and others succumbed to their injuries in hospital. The identity of the victims could not be ascertained immediately. Five vehicles were completely destroyed, while several others were damaged partially.
Local people and police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Kohat District Hospital. The victims were crying for help due to severe pain and wounds. Emergency was declared in Kohat hospitals and doctors on leave were recalled for duty. KP Governor Owais Ghani and Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti strongly condemned the deadly blast and termed it as coward act of terrorism.
They said that perpetrators behind it would be brought to justice soon. They prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed souls in eternal peace and grant courage to members of the bereaved families to bear the loss with patience. They directed the hospital administration to provide suitable medical facilities to the injured. They said that sacrifices would not go waste.
