Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) senior leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi during a meeting with the visiting Iranian Counsel General Ali Nakan here on Wednesday reiterated his firm conviction in strong historic ties between Pakistan and Iran and appreciated the prompt political, moral and material support extended by the people of Iran to the people of Pakistan during times of need.
Elahi said Muharram should be observed with great reverence. In our five years of government we did not let a single untoward incident happened in Punjab during the month of Muharram. The PML-Q leader said that the need of the hour was to further strengthen the already existing strong ties between the two brotherly Islamic nations.
The Iranian Consul General, Ali Nakan expressed his deep appreciation over the steps taken by Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi during his rule in Punjab to ensure peace and sectarian harmony in the month of Muharram. Moreover, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has strongly condemned Wednesday's violent police action against a group of teachers and students protesting in front of the Punjab Assembly building against the Punjab government's education policies.
He has alleged that the Punjab chief minister's silence over the barbaric incident is a proof of his tacit go ahead to the Lahore police for carrying out the shameful act. Elahi has blamed the incumbent Punjab government of playing havoc with the education infrastructure of the province and for forcing the teachers and students to put down their pens and come out in protest against the Punjab government's extremely unjust and flawed education policies.
