Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday warned the government of countrywide agitations against the imposition of Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST), urging the masses to come out against the price-hike, corruption and bad governance.
Briefing the media persons after meeting of the party's organisers from Rawalpindi and Islamabad here at the party's central secretariat, the PTI's additional secretary general, Saifullah Khan Niazi said that the party will resist the move of imposition of RGST with full force. He said that the meeting finalised preparation for December 12 protest holding at Aabpara Chowk at 1:00pm under the leadership of party Chairman Imran Khan.
Niazi said the party was striving hard to force the government to take action against the black-marketers and hoarders of essential commodities, who according to him were sitting side by side with PPP-led government, resulting in the unprecedented price hike in the country.
He said that the imposition of RGST would further add to the problems of the people which is already confronting the burden of sky-rocketing price-hike. He warned the government against imposition of RGST, adding that mass agitations would be held in other major cities in near future if more taxes were levied on the masses. He said that the PTI's Sunday protest was also aimed at raising voice against the growing corruption at the highest level in the government. "It is a pity that while the entire world observed December 9, 2010 as anti-corruption day, the rulers in the country kept criminal silence on it," he added.
