Professor Khurshid accuses government of using delaying tactics: passage of accountability bill by National Assembly

Naib Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Senator Professor Khurshid on Thursday accused the government of using delaying tactics in bringing the Accountability Bill to the National Assembly for passing it into law to arrest the rampant corruption in government's institutions.
"The Accountability Bill is pending in the National Assembly for the last two years and the corrupt elements are busy to give their illicit activities a legal cover and this is why the bill is not going to become a law", he said while talking to journalists here on the occasion of 'Global Anti-corruption Day' observed across the world on December 09.
He said that Anti-corruption Day is being observed in the world with an objective to eliminate corruption from the society and to get rid of the various forms of corruption but the government has decided that like the previous three years that the day would not be observed in Pakistan.
"Apparently, the reason for the same is that throughout the year's 365 days the government has been engaged in observing "Corruption Day" in the country by their deeds," he said adding that the government has rightfully taken the decision to maintain their way of governance.
He alleged that corruption was on the rise in all spheres of governance, while the law was unable to check it, which increases problems of the people manifolds. "No doubt, corruption is basically a moral issue and it would not be possible to resolve without making the rules honest and sincere," he said adding that an effective system of law and accountability is also inevitable to get the things in order.
