Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture (Minfa), Nazar Muhammad Gondal has invited foreign investors to invest in agriculture sector, saying that there are huge potential in Pakistan's agriculture-related industry especially fertiliser, farm machinery and hybrid seeds.
Gondal said that agriculture sector had huge potential for local as well as foreign investment, as farmers are now using more chemical fertilizer and machinery instead of traditional means of harvesting and cultivation. He stated this during a meeting with foreign investor, Nicolas Martin, Chief Financial officer of Ashore, UK and Ahmed Jaudet Bilal, CEO, Agritech here on Thursday.
"We would welcome and encourage foreign investment in agro-based industries. Fertiliser is one area where the local demand is increasing annually and the country has to import the commodity to fulfil the domestic requirements. Agriculture is playing most important role in Pakistan's economic development and any industry related to this sector would be encouraged to flourish," the minister added. Nicolas Martin said that his company was interested to invest in Pakistan especially in the fertiliser industry, owing to its increasing demand in the country.
