The 17th Convocation of the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture will take place on December 11, at 10:00 am at the IVS Campus. Samina Raees Khan, the Executive Director, will present the welcome address and the annual report, while Zia Mohyeddin, President/CEO, National Academy of Performing Arts, would be the keynote speaker.
A total of 73 students are graduating this year, 10 in Architecture, 16 in Textile Design, 23 in Communication Design, three in Ceramics and 15 in Fine Art. There are also four students completing their postgraduate diploma in Textile Design and two graduating in Cinematic Arts Diploma.
Outstanding students will also be given academic awards including: Dr Saleem-uz-Zaman Siddiqui Award in the memory of Dr Saleem-uz-Zaman Siddiqul for outstanding dissertation, The Agha Hasan Abedi Award and Gold Medal, with a cash prize of Rs 10,000, sponsored by the INFAQ Foundation for Excellence in Architecture, The Zahoor-ul-Akhlaq Award for best drawing portfolio in the Department of Fine Art, The Abu Shamim Ariff cash award of Rs 20,000 for best research in Fine Art and the Founders Award to an outstanding student who has not only done consistently well in academics, but who also, through his/her actions and deeds, showed a strong commitment to the school and the chosen profession, participated in extra-curricular activities and community service within and outside the school, has been caring, humble, open-minded and mature in dealings with faculty members and with fellow students, and has shown exceptional organisational and leadership qualities. In other words, the Founder's Award gives recognition to the graduate-student who most closely reflects the philosophy of the school as envisaged by the founders. The thesis display of the students, which commenced on November 29, will also be opened for viewing after the Convocation till 5:00pm.
IVS is one of the leading art schools in the country and is known for its state of the art Campus, 100-year-old "Nusserwanjee Building" a stone structure relocated brick by brick from Kharadar, as well as for training high quality graduates in Art, Design and Architecture. It has strong academic linkages both locally and with overseas universities and institutions.
