Pakistan Rangers and Islamabad Police held a joint Flag March on the roads and streets of the federal capital giving a strong message to terrorists that they are not oblivious of the law and order situation in the capital during Muharram-ul-Haram. The Government has called Pakistan Rangers for assisting Islamabad Police in maintaining law and order situation in the capital.
The Flag March was carried out by Industrial Area and Sadar Zones of Islamabad Police and contingents of Pakistan Rangers participated in the march besides Rescue 15, Anti Terrorist Squad, male and female Police Commandos. Superintendent of Police (SP) Industrial Area Jameel Ahmed Hashmi led the Flag March in which more than 40 vehicles of Pakistan Rangers, Islamabad Police and dozens of motor-cycles participated.
The march carried out on instructions of IGP Islamabad Kaleem Imam and SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, in which ASP Faisal Bashir Memon, DSP Sadar Tahir Mehmud, DSP Industrial Area Muhammad Idrees Rathor, SHOs of police stations falling in Sadar and Industrial Area Zones, personnel of Islamabad Traffic Police, patrolling officers, Eagle Squad, Falcon, Rescue 15 and lady commandoes also took part.
Flag march started from Rescue 15 Islamabad and culminated at the same point after passing through sectors G-8, G-9. G-10. F-10, F-11, Sabzi Mandi. I-9/4, I-8. The purpose of the march was to ensure peace in the city and show readiness of Islamabad police to counter any untoward incident and challenge.
It is pertinent to note that Federal Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik has announced that there are threats of terror strikes during Muharram-ul-Haram and has directed the police and law enforcement agencies (LEAs) all over the country to remain vigilant to meet any eventuality.
The security apparatus in Federal Capital was put on high alert, while checking of vehicles and people on check points was increased, besides directing to the Anti Terrorist Squad and other squads of Islamabad Police and Rescue 15, to increase patrolling to keep a check on movement of suspected persons. Showing of identification papers was also made mandatory during the checking and any person who fails to provide identification would be taken to task.
