Chief justice Lahore High Court Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry here Monday ordered for registration of a criminal case against the police officials who tortured professors and students during a protest before the Punjab Assembly. Chief Justice passed these orders when his attention was drawn to a photograph in which a policeman was shown torturing a professor barbarically lying on the ground before the Punjab Assembly.
The court also allowed the owner of the private bus, burnt by students, to become party in the suo motu proceedings. The LHC CJ also summoned all stockholders in the court on December 14 (today) to settle dust on the dispute between government and professors community on the issue of bringing administrative mechanism of Board of Governors (BOGs) in educational institutions of Punjab.
The court directed the professors and lecturers association president Professor Zahid Sheikh to submit written reply today as to why the teachers took students to Punjab assembly where they ransacked public and private property on December 9 last. Besides, the court summoned secretary education Punjab for today to explain the bottom line in the dispute smoldering between professors and the government on the Board of Governors (BPGs) issue.
