Jahandad Society For Community Development (JSCD) in collaboration with Unicef has brought a positive social change in sub-urban union councils of Lahore by motivating and helping families to send their out of school children to schools. JSCD developed a model of creating Young Champions For Education from with in respective communities that went around in their localities and persuaded parents to send their children to schools.
Addressing a press conference on Monday JSCD chairperson Professor Dr Yasmin Rashid said that in short span of nine months, the Young Champions For Education have managed the admission of 4000 out of school children in government as well as low cost private sector schools. The schools remain closed for some four months for long summer vacations.
Yasmin said that it was a great experience of selecting enthusiastic Young Champions For Education and then training and motivating them to create awareness among parents that education for their children would help transform their lives and they would be able to lead better lives. She said that JSCD along with Young Champions in 20 selected Union Councils offices as well as supporting parents to send their children to schools. She said that this enrolment campaign also led the JSCD to find that there was no government school in very large Christian locality of Jahandad on Ferozepur Road.
