Annual closure of Kotri Barrage: Wasa management directed to ensure water supply
The District Administrator Hyderabad, Aftab Ahmed Khatri has directed the management of the Wasa - HDA to utilise all options available and ensure that there should be no shortage of water supply during the annual closure of Kotri Barrage to be started from the midnight of 25th and 26th December 2010.
This he directed while presiding over meeting regarding reviewing over arrangements of water supply to citizens during the closure of Kotri Barrage held at his office on Tuesday. It may be recalled that the Superintending Engineer of Baghar Circle, Hyderabad had circulated office notification regarding annual closure of Kotri Barrage for the year 2010-2011 and brought to the notice of all Zamindars, cultivators, H.D.A that Kotri Barrage canals will remain closed with effect from midnight 25th and 26th December 2010 to midnight 10th and 11th January 2011 (both days inclusive) for the purpose of normal inspection/maintenance and necessary repair of its infrastructure.
Consequently, there will be no flow of water in the canals ie Akram Wah (lined channel) Old Phuleli (Pinyari), New Phuleli K.B. Feeder Upper, Wadhuwah and Fasadiwah. The Administrator Hyderabad, Aftab Ahmed Khatri directed the Wasa management that since Wasa has water storage capacity of 600 MG and with present supply of 60 MG water per day, it was sufficient for 10 days in normal situation but in case of canal closure of 15 days, some extraordinary and precautionary measures are essentially needed.
He directed the Wasa management to undertake extra water pumping, arrange rotation in water supply, implement water conservation plan in such a way so that the inhabitant of Hyderabad may not feel any difficulty in getting water for their basic requirements.
Khatri also advised to the inhabitant of Hyderabad City, civic bodies and other organisations to get their water storage facilities filled & minimise water usage to avoid any difficulty during the period of closure. He also directed the Wasa authorities to put strict vigilance, do chemical examination of supplied water regularly to avoid any kind of misshape. He also advised the people to consume boiled water. The M.D. Wasa, Shafiq Arain assured the members that there would be no shortage in water supply during the annual closure of Kotri Barrage, as all necessary arrangements to meet the shortage have been made in advance.
