A large number of students on Monday staged sit-in at the administration block of Karachi University over the postponement of scheduled exams. The students gathered at the administration block of KU to express their resentment and chanted slogans against the management over the cancellation of scheduled exams. They demanded of the KU administration to conduct exams on predefined dates to start new semesters on time.
They said there is no conflict among all student organisations and they are united to play their due role for the development of the varsity and added that the authorities concerned should ensure proper security arrangements for students and faculty members as well.
Moreover, the students said the KU administration should take stern action against the admission committee on account of misconduct to facilitate newcomers at optimum level and requested the authorities concerned to shut B.S and M.S programmes and revise previous one. Meanwhile, Dr Manzoor, Students' advisor in KU said the management of varsity has taken all student organisations on board to resolve the said issue. He said the management has now decided to carry out scheduled exams from December 21, 2010 to January 5, 2011 and new sessions would be started from January 8, 2011.
To a question, he said we are making all-out efforts to ensure flawless security arrangements to avoid such incidents in future. However, there is an unconfirmed report that the exams would be held from December 23, 2010.
Needless to mention, the KU has postponed semester examinations' papers scheduled after a violent clash, sparked between two student organisations including the Imamia Student Organisation (ISO) and Peoples' Students Federation (PSF) over the issue of cheating. The activists of both parties attacked each other with iron rods and stones, which left at least seven students wounded.
