Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Centres for Women (SBBCW) were converted into the "Flood relief centres" which facilitated over 0.2 million pregnant women in the recent flood-hit areas. Minister for Women Development Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan informed the Lower House of the parliament on Monday that Women Ministry, NGOs Management Committees and staff of the centre actively participated in the relief activities.
She said women centres in Islamabad, Lahore, Muzafargarh, D G Khan, Quetta, Mianwali, Benazirabad, Multan, Karachi, Khushab and Sibi provided shelter, dry food items, cooked food, clothes, medicine, hygiene kit and tents to flood victims of the area particularly women and children. She said that Ministry of Women and UNFPA had signed an annual work plan 2010 and earmarked 95,000 dollars for women, adding that UNFPA had completed process of procurement of 3,000 safe delivery/ hygiene and dignity kits.
Meanwhile, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Malik Ammar said that Pakistan-US strategic dialogue commenced in March 2006 with an objective to establish a long-term multi-sectoral relationship in education, energy, science and technology and agriculture sectors.
