Sindh Minister for Revenue, Jam Mehtab Dahar has announced January 15, 2011 as the deadline for submission of reproduced revenue record of 24 talukas, which were burnt and damaged in a protest against the assassination of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto on December 27, 2007.
This he directed while presiding over a meeting of the revenue officers at Board of Revenue, Hyderabad, on Tuesday. DDOs Revenue of concerned talukas also attended the meeting. Addressing the meeting, Dahar said that the affected people are experiencing great difficulties in getting their revenue transactions and obtaining privileges meant for them under government schemes.
He added that this has not only caused problems for the landholders, but also has declined revenue related businesses in the province. He observed that government has given sufficient time to the revenue officials, and directed them to ensure that the record, which they are reproducing, is true and justified. He directed them to hold katchery programmes and spot verification while preparing record of rights to avoid injustice to any landholder.
He also directed the officers to submit complete record of rights of the affected talukas by January 15, 2011, adding that he will hold another meeting on January 18, 2011 to finalise the proceedings. The minister recalled that out of 122 talukas, revenue record of 24 talukas, comprising 1,000 dehs, was completely burnt, which was a huge loss for the people, becoming a challenge for the revenue officials to reproduce the documents.
He further said most of the affected dehs pertain to District Qambar-Shahdadkot, Dadu, Nausheroferoze, Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawabshah) and Matiari where revenue officials have been assigned special task for re-preparation of record. Officers of board of revenue, government of Sindh namely Akbar Leghari, Deewan Iqbal, Mohammad Qasim Lashari, Riaz Hussain Soomro and DDOs of concerned talukas attended the meeting.
