My first interaction with late M A Zuberi was as a banker - on the roll of the IDBP, while he worked for Dawn. Our contacts were few but meaningful. He was a great help in the travel of the ICMAP to the position of the most prestigious body of accountants, acknowledged and acclaimed world over, from what was the PIIA till 1966.
Whether it was a media related problem during the formation stage of SAFA (South Asian Federation of Accountants) or such an issue after SAFA came to blossom as a component body of SAARC, M A Zuberi as the Business Recorder steward was a great help.
A similar role in the advancement and growth of accounting profession, more particularly the profession of management accounting, under Zuberi's captainship, Business Recorder had. Presidents and other luminaries of SAFA, on official visit to Karachi, often called on him for guidance also for exchange of pleasantries. On several occasions I accompanied them. ICWAI once consulted him through me. In dealing with the government of India, the relevant issue they acted in keeping with his advice.
During my two stints as Chairman Joint Committee of ICAP and ICMAP and two tenures as Vice President, ICMAP, Business Recorder, with his blessings, remained a guide and help to me and to the profession. Many high profit accountants rose to their heights with his direct/and indirect counselling. A great guide and help to management accounting education and profession, M.A. Zuberi, is no more. May Allah shower blessings on his remains.
