Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Syed Sumsam Ali Shah Bukhari on Saturday assured that the government was not interested in amending the blasphemy law. In a brief telephonic talk with a private TV channel, he said, "The penalty for blasphemy of Holy Prophet Mohammed (SAW) should be fixed in accordance with the Holy Quran and Sunnah. No political party could amend it," he added.
Sumsam Bukhari said Pakistan was an Islamic country and no individual can tolerate the blasphemy of our Holy Prophet (SAW). "If anyone is found guilty of this evil act, he will face adverse punishment," he said. The minister informed that some people were misusing the blasphemy law to serve their personal interests. The same are also involved in registering blasphemy cases against innocent people.
The people who are involved in misusing the blasphemy law should be inflicted harshest possible punishment for accusing the innocent, he maintained. He asked the concerned officials to show seriousness while registering the case against the accused, adding the case should be registered only after getting concrete evidence.
