Shaheed Benazir Bhutto's philosophy, a guiding principle for the Pakistan Peoples Party, is being implemented in letter and spirit by the PPP leadership, said General Secretary PPP Jahangir Badar.
Talking to APP on the eve of Benazir Bhutto's third death anniversary here Sunday, Badar said that the decisions to introduce politics of reconciliation as well as war against terrorism and extremism in the country were in line with BB's philosophy.
Badar said that President Asif Ali Zardari had brought all the political forces together in the country through the politics of reconciliation as per vision of one of the greatest woman Muslim leaders of the world.
PPP Chairperson leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated as she left Liaquat Bagh Rawalpindi after addressing a public gathering on December 27, 2007.
"Former dictator Pervaiz Musharraf had invited Benazir Bhutto to form government with him as President, but she preferred to take the democratic forces along in the larger interest of democracy and the country. Had she (BB) been alive today, the political scene would have been totally different in the country as well as the region" the PPP leader added. The PPP Secretary General said that BB was a champion of the cause of democracy and a beacon of light for the workers as she believed in the empowerment of the masses. She immortalised herself at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi while fighting for the rights of oppressed strata of society. "Our great leader sacrificed her life for the cause of a bright future of the country and never bowed before the undemocratic forces," he asserted.
He said that Benazir Bhutto had always advocated socio-economic uplift of the downtrodden sections of society, asserting that the initiative like Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) was another step towards empowering the poor and the deprived.
The PPP leader said that regularisation of contract employees, reinstatement of the sacked employees, purging constitution of the dictatorial amendments and giving shares to workers in industrial units were the dreams of BB which the present government had realised. Badar said that Benazir Bhutto was a true patriot who loved the country from the core of her heart, as she preferred to stay in the Sukkur jail during Zia's dictatorial regime instead of compromising on principles.
The PPP senior leader claimed that BB was removed from the political scene by dictatorial forces in a bid to destabilise the country. Eulogising her courage and bravery, Jahangir Badar said, "Mohtarma was a brave leader. She did not stop her political activities after surviving in the Karsaz tragedy on October 18, 2007, which claimed lives of more than 150 workers and injured over 600 innocent others". He said that Benazir Bhutto was a role model for the women in the region as well as the world who gave young women the confidence and the courage to enter politics in male dominated societies, adding that she was a rare leader of the Third World who upheld democratic values.
Badar said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto's political career was marked by constant struggle to strengthen democratic institutions, empowering women, overcoming extremism and making Pakistan a great country.
