The martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed has created cracks in the hearts of evil forces and led to a dawn of a new era of prosperity of people and democracy in Pakistan, said Senior Minister Rahimdad Khan on Sunday.
Talking to APP here, he said that Benazir's martyrdom has weakened dictatorship and exposed the faces of suppressed forces. Her beauty and powerful oratory caught the imagination, and dictatorship weakened as her popularity soared, he remarked.
She was a leader of international calibre and the imperialist and dictatorial forces removed her from the political scene in a bid to destabilise Pakistan.
He said the leaders who ruled the hearts and minds of the nation never feared death; like the case of Benazir.
She always thought about welfare of 170 million Pakistanis and was an identity of the country for being an international leader and symbol of federation.
Benazir Bhutto's political acumen was acknowledged even by her political opponents and critics who termed her a leader of international stature. She fought for the downtrodden and oppressed and longed for a forward-looking Pakistan, where women were not subjected to humiliation, torture and treated with respect as equal partners to progress and prosperity.
Benazir Bhutto's thinking was democratic and progressive, and that she wanted to strengthen democracy.
He said that history is witness to the fact that the sacrifice of blood matters the most when it comes accomplishment of any mission. Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions kept alive Islam by offering supreme sacrifices at Karbala, while Benazir Bhutto kept the torch of democracy alive in Pakistan by shedding her blood at Liaqat Bagh.
The forces loyal to democracy have now learned that wrangling between the political parties strengthened dictators and "our past 60 years' parliamentary history is replete with such happenings.
