"The Emplo-yees Old Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) is a welfare organisation and is doing its level best to bring about positive change in the lives of the working community of industrial, commercial and other organisations," stated Zafar Iqbal Gondal, Chairman EOBI while speaking as a chief guest at a seminar organised by EOBI to create awareness amongst its stakeholders about the benefits for registered employees & workers and Workers Welfare Fund (WWF), a sister organisation.
Gondal said EOBI provides Old-Age Pension, Survivors Pension and Invalidity Pension to the registered workers, as well as benefits of WWF are also available to employees/workers registered with EOBI and thus holding its registration card. Elaborating the benefits of registration, he informed that workers holding the EOBI card become eligible for allotment of residential plots/housing facilities, scholarships for technical and higher education and dowry for daughters of the registered workers. He further said that families of registered workers are entitled to receive death grant from WWB on the demise of their bread-earner. He added that a self-employed person could also register with EOBI by paying their own contribution of rupees420 per month and get these benefits.
Chairman EOBI observed that a satisfied and motivated worker would be more productive and cost effective for his organisation. He emphasised that workers can be motivated by providing them and their families social protection by provision of old-age and survivors pension besides provision of housing, education and medical facilities by WWF.
He urged the employers to register all of their workers with EOBI and provide their CNIC so that they benefit from EOBI and WWF Schemes. He also asked the employees federation and workers' representatives to create awareness among the working community of Pakistan about the benefits and advantages of registration with EOBI.
Speaking on the occasion, Sami-ul-Hasan, Consultant Actuary said EOBI can become a true welfare scheme provided it is universalised and its applicability is extended to all establishment and organisations irrespective of the number of their employees. He emphasised the need of extending the facilities of old age benefits to the agricultural workers.
Ehsanullah Khan, Chairman, WEBCOP, Habibuddin junaidi, Member Board of Trustees of EOBI Haji Muhammad Javed President Employees Federation of Pakistan and Shaukat Ali Workers representatives also read their papers and discussed ways and means of publicising EOBI benefits and creating awareness among the workers to come forward for registration to secure their future.
Earlier, Muhammad Hanif, Director General of EOBI spoke about the benefits of EOBI. He said that a worker with 15 years service at his credit can get Rs 3,000 per month as pension which can go up to Rs 5,000 depending on the length of the service. He pointed out that EOBI is the only organisation which gives full pension to the survivor (widows) of decreased pensioners.
He informed that it is paying more than Rs 800 million per month to more then 300,000 pensioners through National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) across the country. He said that around 4.4 million workers are registered with EOBI who would ultimately benefit from its schemes on their retirement.-PR
