'Young doctors are backbone of health system'

Parliamentary Secretary Health Punjab, Dr Saeed Elahi has said that young doctors are the backbone of healthcare system and play a key role in the treatment of patients in teaching hospitals. The government is taking solid measures on priority basis for the solution of the problems of doctors.
He said that the committee constituted by Chief Minister Punjab, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has held a meeting with the representatives of Young Doctors Association, in the light of which recommendations are being formulated for substantial increase in the salaries and other incentives for doctors. He added that this report will be submitted to the chief minister on his return to the country. He further said besides increase in the salaries of the doctors, fixation of duty hours and enhancement in the number of paid seats in various categories is also included in the package evolved for the doctors, which is to be announced shortly.
