BISP launches life insurance scheme for deserving registered families: Farzana
Federal Minister and Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Farzana Raja has said that BISP has launched life insurance scheme for the deserving registered families, which is a unique step to uplift the lives of poor and downtrodden segments of society, says a press release issued here on Friday.
She said that credit for this landmark step goes to the government of Pakistan People's Party and political leadership of the country and it is a reflection of the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, as the service of poor was her prime mission.
The Chairperson said this while distributing cheques among 140 BISP beneficiaries under Waseela-e-Haq programme at Governor House. Besides others, Governor Punjab, Salman Taseer and Federal Minister for Social Welfare Samina Khalid Ghurki were also present on the occasion.
Farzana said that the life insurance facility would be offered to 5 million registered beneficiaries of BISP till June 2011. She said the women who are receiving cheques under Waseela-e-Rozgar have already completed their training.
She highlighted various components of BISP besides Monthly Cash Grant including Waseela-e-Haq, Waseela-e-Rozgar and life Insurance Scheme and said that serving underprivileged was mission and dream of Shaheed BB and she sacrificed her live in translating the dream into reality.
She said that the government doesn't believe in mere political slogans, but it believes in true service. She added that transparency is the hallmark of BISP and introduction of Mobile Phone Banking is another giant leap to ensure transparent delivery.
She said that BISP is striving hard to make Pakistan a social Welfare State and significant achievements in this regards have already been recorded. Farzana said that BISP is aiming to reduce poverty significantly during next few years and afore-mentioned innovative programmes would be highly instrumental in achieving the target.
Salman Taseer said that BISP is translating the dream of Shaheed BB into reality. He appreciated the efforts of Farzana and said that her untiring efforts have made the programme a huge success in regard with service to the people, adding that Pakistan is not a rich country; however, considering the hardships of the people, the democratic government has come forward to help them out to combat with poverty and economic problems. He said that even developed and rich countries could not present any example in social sector. He said that the people of Punjab were feeling hapless and Pakistan People's Party has once again revived their hopes.-PR
