Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Qamar Zaman Kaira on Friday said that taxation is a bitter pill but is of utmost importance for economic development. Talking to media outside Parliament House here, Kaira said that imposition of new taxes was need of the hour to steer the country out of economic mess.
He said that the government was well aware of the price hike, adding that the lack of resources is the main cause of price hike due to which masses were in trouble. He also urged the opponents to realise the problem and avoid point scoring. To a question, he said that the government was concerned over the situation caused by the separation of some allied parties, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl quitting the government and Muttahida Qaumi Movement, leaving the Federal Cabinet slots.
However, he said that there was need of reconciliation and the government wants to move forward taking coalition partners on board, adding that the country needs policy of reconciliation and all the political forces must exhibit tolerance.
Kaira said that the incumbent government made important achievements during the outgoing year, 2010 adopting the policy of reconciliation, adding that the year brought two important constitutional amendments, 18th amendment and 19th amendment passed unanimously by the Parliament. Similarly, he added that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan were given their long waiting right due to the constitutional reforms.
He said that the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan package for the people the province was another landmark achievement of the government, which will be acted upon in letter and spirit. Besides, the Minister for Information said the restoration of the sacked employees was also a major achievement and part of manifesto of the PPP government. He said the country was no more isolated at international level due to the effective foreign policy.
