German NGO provided food to 13,200 flood-hit families in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The 'German Aid for Afghan Children' (GAAC), a Germany-funded organisation has fed 13,200 flood affected families in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) through distributing food items among them. This was stated by GAAC Country Director for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Engineer Alam Shahab, while distributing food and non-food relief goods among 1200 flood affected families of Kaidaam and Gornai areas of the district Swat.
The country director is also collecting data regarding the requirements of the flood affected families of the area for extending relief assistance to them. The food and non-food relief items distributed on the occasion included flour, rice, pulses, milk powder, ghee, tea leaf, quilts, blankets, and warm clothes, particularly for children and women.
Speaking on the occasion, Alam said that Dr Eroes, the Germany-based chief of the organisation "is taking keen interest in the rehabilitation of the flood affected families". He said that the chief of the organisation had also pledged continuation of the relief activities till complete rehabilitation of the flood victims.
The organisation has also distributed solar energy kits among 1000 families for provision of energy to them, while 500 more deserving affectees would be provided solar cookers in a short period of time. The provision of the solar cookers, he said, would help the affected families to cook and warm foods. He said that the organisation is giving priority to residents of the far-flung and inaccessible areas, adding that snowfall and severe cold have developed various diseases as majority of the affectees are living without having shelter even in the present chilly winter. He said that such families need warm clothes and medicines.
Engr Alam urged international relief agencies for co-operation in the acceleration of the relief activities. Otherwise, he warned of the deterioration of the condition of the flood affectees. Quoting a survey conducted by the United Nations, he said that 4 million flood affectees were still deprived of the basic facilities of life and living a miserable life. He said that the people of Germany are ready to extend all kinds of assistance to such families and stand shoulder to shoulder with their Pakistani brethren in the current critical juncture of the history.
