Senior Provincial Minister Raja Riaz Ahmad has directed to ensure completion of canal desilting campaign throughout Punjab and fulfil the set targets of Irrigation Department. He further said that desilting should be completed by January 31 and canals should be closed on alternate dates. He asked the officers of Irrigation Department to undertake extensive visits and inspect work to ensure proper standards.
Raja Riaz Ahmad said that desilting campaign is aimed at providing water to the farmers at tails, so all steps should be taken in this regard. He said that Irrigation Department would also hold 3rd Party Audit of desilting. He directed to hold a meeting of chief engineers to review this campaign and put up report. Senior Minister was informed that in first phase 2527 miles long 436 canals would be desilted and 7.5 crore cubic feet silt would be collected. Similarly, 1333 miles long 239 canals would be desilted and 3.69 crore cubic feet silt would be collected. He was told that an Additional Secretary was directly supervising this desilting while monitoring was being ensured at district level.
