Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Punjab has termed the tragic killing of Governor Punjab Salman Taseer, as a great loss to the party and deplored the religious intolerance projecting negative image of Pakistan world-wide. PPP Punjab President Imtiaz Safdar Warraich condemned the incident and termed it climax of religious intolerance and it suggests where the fanatics are trying to take the country and what kind of image of Pakistan they are building up across the globe.
According to him, the common man of the province has felt extremely insecure once the provincial head is murder in the daylight. He dubbed the slain Salman Taseer as a committed party worker, outspoken and full of moral courage. According to him, the former Governor Punjab had added to his controversial statement on blasphemy law that final decision would come from the Parliament. And it is a matter of record that the prime minister and the minister for religious affairs had made clear that government had no intention to repeal the law, he added.
He fretted that the incident would paint a negative image of country abroad and no one knows where the present situation would take the country. He said the former Governor was a political worker with a political thinking and was playing an important role. He further added that the former Governor had a peculiar approach towards the issue of governance in the province of Punjab.
Warraich said he was in close contact with the former Governor on organisational matters of the PPP Punjab, as he was a man of political vision and his departure has left the country with a political vacuum, not easy to fill up in near future. Meanwhile, the PPP has announced two weeks mourn over the sad killing of Governor Salman Taseer and cancelled all political activities across the Punjab.
